Dear Mel and Larry,
In the attached photograph you can see one of the many children who have been helped with a PET in Sierra Leone. When thinking about this
picture today, I was reminded of a tapestry, there are a number of interesting threads running through it. Let me explain what I mean.
 |
1. First of all this young girl with polio would have gotten her PET
through your organization.
|
 |
2. Next the custom made leg brace, enabling her to walk with the
crutches in the rear of the PET. The crutches, would have been provided
by individual donations of used crutches to New Steps
|
 |
3. This disabled child would have been able to attend school through
the "school reintegration program", which pays for her books and school
fees, and is operated by New Steps, but funded through UNICEF.
|
 |
4. Finally the concrete wheelchair ramp and rails in the picture
enables the disabled student access to the classroom. These ramps have
been built at 20 different primary & secondary schools in Sierra Leone. They
were funded by a concerned Christian man working for the European Union in Freetown as an economic advisory to Sierra Leone.
|
I like all of these threads which make up this tapestry and provides
much needed help and services for those with physical disabilities in Sierra Leone.
To God be the glory for all the many partners and ways in which we can work together for "The least of these our brothers".
Just thinking of you two and the PET Project today.
