WHAT A DIFFERENCE A PET MAKES

Note:  The photos from Vietnam in this issue are of a very low quality. They were made from a copy of a video, then transferred from stopped frames in the video. They are very blurred but we want you to get the images of the impact of a PET upon the lives of the recipients.

The woman above came to the PET/wheelchair distribution in a church in Saigon, Vietnam walking on all fours - her way of moving about for many years. She left (below) with a big smile on her face, driving a new PET

.

PET  FLORIDA SHIPS 65 PET'S.

Steve Baima, a volunteer at THE PET PLACE in Columbia, Missouri, was helping his daughter and family move to a new home in Middleburg, just north of The PET PLACE here in Florida. We arranged with him to bring down the big Festival of Sharing gooseneck trailer with his truck when he came. April 9th, in the picture below, we loaded it with 65 PET's for his return trip. He delivered them to Hope Haven hqs. in Rock Valley, Iowa (mentioned in the previous article). They will then include them in their shipments of wheelchairs to be allocated to those people residing in places where wheelchairs cannot go,

PET FLORIDA PARTNERS WITH MERCY SHIPS

PET's are now in 17 countries. There they have been thoroughly tested and proven and now overwhelming numbers of requests for them are coming in. Mel West, Director of PET MISSOURI, recently relayed to us a request from Mercy Ships for 50 PET's to go on their ship Anastasis to Sierra Leone from Texas, probably in September. We affirmed that we would fill that request PET MISSOURI sent them 52 last year for their project New Steps, in Sierra Leone and "New Steps" has urgently requested more when the ship visits there again this year..

VOLUNTEERS KEEPS PET GOING

Some 35 volunteers from Penney Retirement Community, adjacent to which our PET PLACE is located, and several from the surrounding area give three or four hours once or twice and sometimes three or four times or more a week to raise funds, reply to gifts, go to town for materials, and to work in the many phases of manufacture and packing.

Dan Dorsey and the Second Milers 55 class of Excelsior Springs. Missouri are sending us brake handles., brake shoes, and pedal column bolts.
James Taylor of Raleigh, sends us pedal assemblies he makes in his home workshop.
Don McCoy of Jefferson UMC Medford, Oklahoma also sends pedal parts.
Ray Turn of Galien, MI sends us pivot tubes and pins. He is also making the tractor unit for the Jr. size PET.
Chris Williams and Paul Madiera of FL Lauderdale, FL are making the Jr. PET trailer units.

Tom Andrew of Napoleon,
OH has made and delivered 200+ adult PET trailer units to PET Missouri at no cost and has promised to weld, paint, and deliver to us all we can use as well.
We are in conversation with our area technical schools about students making PET parts as class project.

Orange Park (a nearby suburb of Jacksonville) Rotary Club provided us with 50 front forks with a promise of more when needed

April Sukun and friend Margaret of Tamp~ FL sew and sends us saddle bags.

Elvin Wilber of Orange Park, Fl. makes wooden brake wedges and guides and seat brackets.

These volunteers and others enable us to produce finished and boxed PET's at an ever increasing rate. if you have a metal working skill and equipment and wish to help some of the least of these of God's children to rise up out of the dirt to a better life please contact us for details. Persons living within easy driving distance of us can also become involved in producing and delivering wooden parts.

Thirty-four years ago this gentleman stepped on a land mine in Vietnam and lost both legs totally. He has moved about using two low stools, placing his right buttocks on one, then swinging his left buttocks to the next one, and on and on. One can only try to imagine the difficulty and indignity of this mode of travel. He received the gift of mobility and left with a huge smile on his face and a wave of his hand.

PET PARTS MAKERS

If you have a workshop with welding capabilities and time to devote to it we are seeking individuals or groups to make a metal part or parts in quantity and send them to us. That can assist us in making more PET's quickly and provide meaningful service project for interested people. Most parts makers raise support from their own church or other group for materials and shipping but PET Florida stands ready to cover such costs if necessary. If you feel God is calling you to participate in this ministry in that way please contact
